The Food and Drug Administration’s final rule:

“Bar Code Label Requirement for Human Drug Products and Biological Products”, published February 26, 2004, will require the use of “machine readable information” for labeling of patient medications.
The final rule is effective April 26, 2004 with compliance to the rule by April 26, 2006.

This mandatory use of the National Drug Code (NDC) for bedside patient medications provided Digi-Trax the impetus to develop a software driven, on-demand labeling system (DUL™) for medications which are compounded in the pharmacy.  DUL™ will give you the ability to label any non-bar coded products in-house, including liquid doses prepared for pediatric use.
